Ms. Cafferky's Kindergarten Class

Welcome to Ms. Cafferky's Kindergarten Class!

My name is Kolleen Cafferky. I am celebrating my 24th year teaching elementary school!  I received Teacher of the Year at JIES  in 2010-2011. This is my second time receiving this award. I am also a CCSD TOP Teacher. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. My family transplanted to Charleston in 1986, the year I graduated from high school. I have a degree from The University of South Carolina. No offense to any Tigers or other college football fans, but the Gamecocks are my favorite team! I am always excited about the college football season! My parents live on James Island. I have two sisters and a brother. My oldest sister lives in Charleston. My brother is married and lives in Boston. My youngest sister lives in Connecticut. My family has been extended with three nieces and two nephews. The oldest is 11 so they keep us very busy! An interesting fact is that I am the JIES tennis coach! My favorite hobby, other than reading of course, is playing tennis. I am a member of the USTA (United States Tennis Association) and enjoy playing on a women's 4.5 team. I am also a certified Eye Coach. Last summer, I accepted an invitation to sit on the LYTA (Lowcountry Youth Tennis Association) board. This is a grass roots non-profit to help CCSD schools immerse students into the sport of tennis to promote wellness. My classroom philosophy combines high expectations, traditional direct instruction, cooperative learning, movement, wellness, and creative arts to provide a fun and safe environment where all students achieve. Clifford, The Big Red Dog is one of my favorite book characters. We go way back, so he is also a prominent part of my classroom environment. We
focus on Clifford's BIG Ideas and the SOAR Rules in personal and social behavior.
Learning in Kindergarten is BIG, just like Clifford!
We are ready for reading, writing, and math adventures!

With warm regards & wishes for a happy 2016-2017 school year,
